Tring Camerata – Inaugural Concert: 12th April 2026

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:

Tring Camerata to Launch with Classical Masterworks at St Peter & St Paul

A new professional chamber orchestra will make its debut in Tring at 3:00pm on 12th April at St Peter & St Paul Church on the High Street.

Tring Camerata – Professional Chamber Orchestra brings together professional musicians who live in Tring and the surrounding Chiltern area, adding a professional strand to the town’s already vibrant musical life.

The inaugural concert will take the form of a side-by-side performance, in which professional musicians will lead from principal positions alongside talented local amateur players – creating a collaborative and celebratory community event.

The programme reflects the elegance and innovation of the Classical era:

Founded and conducted by internationally renowned double bassist Leon Bosch, the Camerata aims to complement the rich amateur music making tradition in Tring by presenting a small number of carefully curated professional performances each year.

Bosch explains:

“Tring already has a remarkable musical culture. Tring Camerata exists to add another strand – bringing together professional musicians who live locally and working alongside the excellent amateur players in the area to create something genuinely collaborative and special.”

The inclusion of Joseph Bologne’s Sinfonia Concertante reflects the Camerata’s commitment to broadening classical programming while remaining rooted in the great traditions of Mozart and Haydn.

Haydn’s dramatic “Farewell” Symphony will conclude the afternoon in theatrical fashion – an unforgettable close to what promises to be a landmark and community-focused occasion in Tring’s cultural calendar.

Further details will be announced shortly.

Leon Bosch – Music Director

Leon Bosch is an internationally renowned double bassist, conductor and chamber musician who has lived in Tring for nearly 30 years. His connection to the town is central to the founding of Tring Camerata, through which he brings together his international experience with a commitment to enriching the local musical landscape.

He served for almost twenty years as Principal Double Bass of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and has also held principal positions with the London Mozart Players and Manchester Camerata, amongst others. He is currently Principal Double Bass of the World Orchestra for Peace and South Africa’s national orchestra, The Mzansi Philharmonic.

Alongside his orchestral career, Bosch has established a distinguished international reputation as a soloist and chamber musician, with an extensive solo discography of over twenty recordings and a long-standing commitment to expanding the repertoire of the double bass through commissions and first performances. He is Artistic Director of I Musicanti and the Ubuntu Ensemble and was recipient of the Cobbett Medal 2024 for Services to the Art of Chamber Music.

As a conductor, he has appeared with orchestras including the Bristol Ensemble, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Orphica at the Sophia Music Weeks Festival, the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and the Free State Symphony Orchestra, and maintains a close artistic association with The Hanover Band in both concert and recording projects.

A central strand of his conducting work is the revival of the music of Johann Matthias Sperger, including modern premieres, recordings and scholarly engagement. In 2026 he will conduct the final of the Sperger International Double Bass Competition in Berlin.

He is also leading a major recording project with I Musicanti of the complete Sinfonias Concertantes of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, based on a new critical edition prepared for Schott by Christopher Dingle.

As Music Director of Tring Camerata, Bosch brings a lifetime of experience at the highest level of performance to the development of a professional ensemble rooted in collaboration, excellence and community engagement.
